The Council of Europe Wallenberg prize of 2018 has been awarded on 17 January 2018 to the European Roma Rights Centre. The 10 thousand euro prize is financed by the Parliament of Hungary and the Government of Sweden. The award ceremony took place at the Council of Europe is Strasbourg on the 78th anniversary of the day Raoul Wallengberg was arrested. Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland gave a speech at the ceremony praising the winner of the biannual award. As a part of the award ceremony the Permanent Representation of Hungary has also organised a screening of the Oscar winning film the Son of Saul.
