18 November is the European Day the protection of Children against Sexual Abuse and Sexual Exploitation. The Hungarian Permanent Representation has carried out awareness raising activities in the form of cultural events in the past years to bring more attention to the European Day in Strasbourg.
This year at the evening reception of the "Conference on redefining power: Strengthening the rights of the child" students of the Snétberger Music Talent Centre gave a concert. The four talented musicians gave a fantastic performance for the more than 300 hundred participants from all over the 47 member states of the Council of Europe. After the welcomeing words of Ambassador Ágnes Kertész the Hungarian Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, Béla Lakatos played the clarinet, László Horváth played the violin, Benjamin Urbán the piano, while Orsolya Janszó sang opera.
The concert was also an opportunity to showcase the mentorship programme of the Snétberger Music Talent Centre established by the legendary jazz guitarist Ferenc Snétberger. The centre scouts talent from disadvantaged communities for children of roma origin and has twelve week programmes for 60 students each year. The programme also includes personal mentoring, which continues after the finishing the programme with career advice and concert opportunities.
