The Hungarian Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe held national day celebrations on 23 October 2018 to mark the 62nd anniversary of the Hungarian revolution and freedom fight of 1956.

To commemorate the revolution the Hungarian Permanent Representation organised a screening of the film American Rhapsody directed by Éva Gárdos and starring Scarlett Johansson. The film depicts a true story showing the struggles of a Hungarian family in the 1950s. 

The film screening was followed by video message of Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó and a speech by State Secretary for European Union Relations, Judit Varga as well as a greeting by Ambassador Ágnes Kertész Permanent Representative of Hungary to the Council of Europe. State Secretary Judit Varga emphasized in her speech the lessons learnt from history and how history shapes us today.
