On the margins of the spring part session of hte Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mr Zsolt Németh, the head of the Hungarian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly and the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Hungarian National Assembly met with Mr Thorbjørn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe. They discussed current challenges of the organization and future possibilities of the protection of national minorities. They were also joined by Mr László Brenzovics, the president of the Cultural Alliance of Hungarians in Sub-Carpathia, who gave an overview to the Secretary General regarding the situation of the Hungarian national minority in Ukraine. 

 

 

Also on the margins of the spring session the Hungarian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly organized a side event on languague rights in Ukraine. The head of the Hungarian parliamentary delegation Mr. Zsolt Németh was joined by Mr. László Brenzovics, president of the Cultural Alliance of Hungarians in Sub-Carpathia, Mr.  Stefan Schennach, Member of the Austrian PACE delegation, Mr. Lóránt Vincze, President of the Federal Union of European Nationalities and Ms. Aurica Bojescu, Representative of the Bukovinian Romanian Community. During the event they discussed the implementation of the Council of Europe Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities and the Charter for Regional or Minority Languages in Ukraine and the implementation of the recommendations and conclusions of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) on the Ukrainian Education Law.
